Who You Are When the World Tries to Tell You Otherwise
Let’s be honest—being a young professional in today’s world can feel like standing in the middle of a storm. Careers demand that we define success by titles and salaries. Social media whispers that we’re not enough unless we meet certain standards or live a curated lifestyle. Even personal relationships can bring pressure to conform, compromise, or perform.
Through it all, God offers a steady, unshakable truth: your identity is not earned, edited, or determined by the world. It has already been defined—by the One who created you, redeemed you, and calls you His own.
As followers of Christ, we strive to live with integrity and purpose. But neither of those is sustainable unless we first know who we are. In 2 Corinthians 5:17, Paul reminds us that anyone in Christ is a new creation. That means your identity isn’t built on your résumé, your past, your appearance, or your relationship status. It’s rooted in Christ alone. We are chosen, royal, holy, and set apart so that we may proclaim the praises of the One who called us out of darkness. Your identity in Christ is your platform for impact. It’s the foundation from which you lead, serve, love, and grow.
As Adventists, we carry a unique calling. We’re part of a faith tradition that values truth, mission, and the hope of Christ’s soon return. Living that out in a secular workplace or academic setting isn’t always easy—but it’s deeply needed. Your convictions, your Sabbath rest, your compassion—they speak not only of your character but of the God you represent.
So when the world tries to shake your sense of identity, take a moment to pause. Open the Word. Lean into community. And remember: you’re not just another professional. You are a new creation. A chosen generation. A disciple on mission.
