Take Yourself On a Date…

Intentionality is the foundation of any meaningful relationship. We often pour our energy into nurturing romantic connections, but what about the one relationship that truly shapes every other—our relationship with ourselves?

Dating is not just for couples. It is also a beautiful invitation to reconnect with your own heart, desires, and identity. Taking yourself on a date might sound a little unconventional, but stay with me. What if your next date was, well… With you?

Get dressed up. Do your hair. Put on that lipstick you love. Not because you are trying to impress anyone, but because you are worth showing up for. Taking yourself out is not about loneliness or not having someone to take you. Heck, even if you’re married, this is a loving practice you can do for yourself. It’s all about intimacy with your own being. It is about falling in love with who you are, not in a vain way, but in a grounded, sacred, and life-giving way.

My First Solo Date Night

I’ll never forget the first time I truly dated myself. I chose a charming spot downtown, took the long scenic route to get there, and treated the evening like it mattered—because it did. I showed up in my favorite outfit, with makeup done and a heart open to something new.

I grabbed my usual matcha frappe from Starbucks, then strolled under twinkling fairy lights with the night sky above me like a canopy. I felt free, a little nervous, but mostly excited. Eventually, I walked into a romantic restaurant and clearly and confidently asked for a table for one. The hostess blinked in surprise. “Just you?” she asked. I smiled and said, “Yes, just me tonight.”

That moment was small but monumental. There was something deeply empowering about claiming that space, not in spite of being alone, but because I chose myself on purpose.

It’s Not About Proving Anything, But About Presence

As I sat at my little candlelit table, I journaled freely. I asked myself meaningful questions like:

  • Who am I becoming?
  • What do I love about who I’m becoming?
  • What do I need more of in my life?
  • How can I show up more fully as myself?

That date night taught me this: Confidence is built in quiet, sacred moments. It is built when no one is watching, and you choose to show up anyway… For you. You do not need someone else’s validation to feel radiant or worthy. Your presence is enough.

Your Challenge: Romance Your Own Life

Plan a real date for yourself. One that excites you and makes you feel cherished. Go solo, maybe pick up some pretty flowers, journal, ask yourself soul-level questions, and most of all, enjoy your own company. Yes, it will be uncomfortable, and yes, you’ll feel like people are watching. Let them.

A few journal prompts to bring on your solo date:

  • What do I appreciate most about myself?
  • What’s something I’m proud of that no one knows?
  • What am I craving more of in my daily life?
  • What would my most radiant self say yes to? What would she say no to?

You deserve a relationship with yourself that feels whole, beautiful, and alive. Don’t just date someone else… date you for now. Mister will show up when you’re ready for him… Not a minute sooner.

Ps. You might be surprised at how much you like the woman you discover through this challenge. And oh, that reminds me, I’m late for my next date with me!
