SetBACK or Set UP?

“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His  purpose” (Romans 8:28, NKJV).  It was my final year in university. I was a senior! I would soon be receiving my cap and gown for graduation day. Interestingly enough, I was not even thinking about my career or what my intentions were after graduation. I was just in a different headspace at the time; emotions were sky high!

With only a few months left in school, I had already made plans for my graduation day. In fact, family members from afar had already booked their flights to spend this soon to be celebratory moment with me. Excitement and joy were in the air! All of my hard work had finally paid off. Well not quite yet…I did have to complete an eight-week-education practicum course.

Things started off well, but slowly challenges arose. Nearing the end of my practicum experience, life and family issues became more apparent, and a downward spiral was the result.  Consequently, I was unable to complete my practicum program. What a setback! A very disappointing time. The shame of what my friends and family would say or think overwhelmed me. Sadly, I started to believe the lies from the enemy that I was not good enough and had failed miserably.

However, little did I know that, with this setback, God was already making provisions for me. Let’s fast forward a few months later. I did not see it then, but after finally completing another semester at university, a job opportunity arose. My setback was a set up for something greater! It was a smooth transition into the next chapter of my life. God had worked everything out for my good.

He is working it out for you too! During your difficult times, it may be hard to see God’s plan and purpose for your life, but I challenge you to TRUST Him. When you go through deep waters, He is with you (Isaiah 48:42). He is working out every setback/set up for your good (Romans 8:28). Won’t you trust in this promise today?
