At Adventist Young Professionals (AYP), outreach and service aren’t just activities — they’re central to our mission and culture. Every month, AYP members from across the globe come together to serve Christ and others through various mission projects, each one designed to make a meaningful and lasting difference. These projects not only serve the communities we work in, but they also help our members grow spiritually and build stronger connections with each other.
One such project that stands out was a recent mission trip where AYPers worked hard to restore a local church school playground. This wasn’t just about cleaning up a park; it was about making a space safer and more welcoming for children, all while building a stronger sense of community. It took two days of hard work to spread wood chips and revitalize the playground, ensuring that it would be a safe place for kids to play once school resumed.
As one participant shared, “It’s not about doing something big, but doing something purposeful.” The impact wasn’t in the tangible result — the newly spruced-up playground — but in the purpose behind it. It’s about using the influence we have in practical ways to serve others, all for God’s glory. While the children who will play on the restored playground may never know the effort behind it, AYPers know that it was done it for them. Recognition aside, this was a chance to make a difference.
This project also illustrates how AYP’s mission trips combine hands-on service with personal growth. Volunteers are given the opportunity to serve their communities in meaningful ways, all while deepening their relationship with Christ. As one participant reflected, “What God has shown me through this mission trip is that He can work through anyone. Take the plunge, go on a mission trip, and watch how God can use you to make a difference.”
The community where this mission trip took place had identified a clear need for restoration, and AYP was there to answer the call. The church community came together to create a safe and inviting space, demonstrating how serving in a practical and tangible way can create lasting change.
Beyond the immediate project, there’s a bigger picture at play: the mindset of service. After these trips, participants return to their local communities with a renewed perspective on how they can serve not just within their church, but throughout their wider community. This ripple effect of service is how AYP continues to impact lives for Christ — one project at a time.
