From Quiet Community to Global Mission

Shaid Gussie’s AYP Journey

Shaid Gussie’s journey with Adventist Young Professionals (AYP) didn’t begin with a leadership role or a grand vision. It started in the quiet corners of a small online Adventist youth community—a space created for Bible study and encouragement, where young people came together to grow in faith.

As Shaid began contributing more to the group, a passing comment from another member struck a chord: “This could grow into something like Adventist Young Professionals.” That simple statement planted a seed.

Discovering the AYP Vision

Curious, Shaid started exploring. Even without a local chapter in the Caribbean where he lived, Shaid found community in the digital space and it changed everything. Because Shaid never had a local chapter, his introduction to AYP was 100% online. But that didn’t limit his impact. Even when Shaid felt stretched or unqualified, grace met him there. And in that stretching, he discovered that true impact often comes through consistency, humility, and a heart that says, “Use me.”

He discovered that kingdom work doesn’t require a platform or stage. It can happen in spreadsheets, design decks, Zoom meetings, and strategy calls. The beauty of Shaid’s work lies in its intentionality, how each visual, each campaign, each partnership points back to Christ.

And when challenges came, he leaned on prayer, community, and the conviction that God equips those who say yes.

Saying “Yes” to Serving

He started small, joining the global team as an Administrative Assistant. It was behind the scenes, but deeply formative. That role helped him realize that ministry doesn’t always need a stage—it can grow through spreadsheets, messages, and quiet consistency. His communication and design gifts soon found new purpose in serving the mission.

In time, his roles evolved: Communication and Marketing Manager, then Director of Partnership. Each step wasn’t about climbing a ladder—it was about saying yes to where God was leading. And with every yes, Shaid saw his faith stretched and refined.

Serving with Purpose and Perspective

Today, Shaid continues to serve on AYP’s global leadership team. What anchors him most is the community he serves alongside—a team bound by prayer, purpose, and a shared belief in what God can do through willing hearts.

“AYP has helped me see that every part of my life—career, creativity, relationships—can reflect God’s character,” Shaid says. “I’ve learned that when you show up with what you have, God meets you there and does more than you imagined.”
