Transformed Lens

-

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” – 2 Corinthians 5:17

How often do we look in the mirror and see a distorted reflection—one clouded by insecurities, past mistakes, or the weight of others’ expectations? These flawed self-perceptions can overshadow the beautiful truth of who we are in God’s eyes. Yet through His grace, God invites us to exchange our limited and distorted view for His divine perspective, where we are seen as His beloved, valued, and purpose-filled creations.

Isaiah 55:8-9 reminds us, “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways, declares the Lord. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts.” God doesn’t see us through the lens of our flaws or failures. Instead, He sees us as His masterpieces, designed with intention and destined for His purpose. Embracing this truth requires us to let go of our earthly lens and trust in His higher perspective.

When we allow God to transform how we see ourselves, something remarkable happens. We begin to recognize our worth not in what we achieve or how we appear but in the unchanging reality of His love. Psalm 17:8 beautifully expresses this truth: “Keep me as the apple of Your eye; hide me under the shadow of Your wings.” To be the apple of God’s eye means we are deeply cherished and protected, regardless of the labels we or others might place on us.

This shift in perspective has a ripple effect. As we see ourselves through God’s lens, we are freed from the need to measure up to worldly standards. We also become more attuned to how God is working in our lives, shaping us to reflect His character. At Adventist Young Professionals (AYP), we’ve seen countless young adults experience this transformation—learning to embrace their God-given identity and stepping into roles of leadership, service, and faith they never imagined for themselves.

1 John 3:1 calls us to marvel at the depth of God’s love: “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!” This reminder is a call to action. When we understand how deeply God loves and values us, we are empowered to live confidently and intentionally, pursuing the purpose He has for our lives.

If you’ve been struggling with feelings of inadequacy or self-doubt, know this: God sees you as more than enough. His love is not conditional on your achievements or appearance but rooted in the fact that you are His child. Let His truth replace the distorted lens through which you’ve been viewing yourself.

As you reflect on God’s unchanging love and acceptance, take a step of faith to live in alignment with your true identity. Join a community, such as AYP, where you can share your journey with others who are also discovering the freedom of seeing themselves through God’s eyes. Together, we can encourage one another to let go of the world’s distortions and embrace the life God has lovingly designed for us.

God’s lens is not only transformative—it’s freeing. Let Him show you the beauty, value, and potential He sees in you, and step forward into the life He’s prepared for you with confidence and joy.
