“Behold, I will do a new thing, now it shall spring forth; shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.” – Isaiah 43:19
God’s promise to do something new is one that resonates deeply, especially when we find ourselves navigating seasons of uncertainty. If you’ve ever felt like you were in a wilderness—wandering without clear direction, facing challenges that seem insurmountable—know that this is often where God begins His greatest work. Isaiah 43:19 reminds us that even in the driest deserts of life, God is actively creating new paths and opportunities. But what does that look like in our everyday lives, and how can we stay open to the “new thing” God is doing?
One of the first steps is recognizing that these wilderness seasons are not devoid of God’s presence. In fact, they are often the very places where He plants seeds of renewal and transformation. Think of Psalm 40:1-3, where David writes about waiting patiently for the Lord, who then sets his feet on a rock and gives him a new song. This illustrates that God is not just leading us through difficult times—He is preparing to lift us up and set us on a firm foundation, even giving us a new song of praise to carry forward.
In the book of Jeremiah, the prophet speaks of God’s purpose in the midst of hardship. Jeremiah 45:4 reveals that even in the most trying circumstances, God is aware and working according to His plan. Similarly, in Romans 8:35, Paul assures us that nothing can separate us from the love of Christ, not even the most difficult trials we face. These passages remind us that God’s new work is often intertwined with His enduring love and purpose, even when we can’t immediately see it.
At Adventist Young Professionals (AYP), we understand that life’s deserts can feel isolating. That’s why our community is built around the principle of walking together through every season—whether it’s through local chapters, mentorship connections, or small groups. We believe that God uses our connections with one another to reveal the new things He’s doing in our lives. When we engage with others who share our faith, we often find encouragement, perspective, and the assurance that God is indeed making a way.
Ezekiel 37:4-6 gives us a powerful image of God’s transformative power. In the valley of dry bones, God breathes life into what was once dead, showing us that He can bring renewal even in the most lifeless situations. As we reflect on this passage, it’s a reminder that God is always at work, reviving our spirits and renewing our hope, even when we feel completely depleted.
So how do we stay attuned to the new thing God is doing? It begins with trust. Trust that God is making a way, even if you can’t see it yet. Reflect on how He has been faithful in the past, and let those memories strengthen your faith. Engage with the AYP community—join a new group, seek out a mentor, or simply reach out for prayer and support. Often, God’s work in our lives becomes clearer when we’re in fellowship with others.
In the end, Isaiah 43:19 isn’t just about God making a way in the wilderness; it’s about recognizing that His new work is already beginning. It’s about opening our eyes to see the paths He’s creating and trusting that He will guide us through. So, as you move through this season, be encouraged. God is at work in your life, bringing forth something new—something beautiful and full of His purpose.
Let’s embrace the journey together, confident that God is with us, making a way where there seems to be none.
