Have you ever been at a transition point in your life and did not fully know what would come next? That was me after I graduated college –unsure what I wanted to do with my finance degree that I had graduated with from Southern Adventist University. So instead of taking a traditional full time job, I decided to do a summer internship with AdventHealth, working at a hospital just outside of Fort Worth, Texas. This involved leaving many friends and family behind, back on the east coast and moving to Texas, where I did not know anybody at the time, to embark on a new adventure.
Shifting to a new job and a new place can be a big adjustment, which was not something I fully realized until going through the experience first hand — developing new relationships and getting accustomed to a new place. But throughout the transition, I was reminded of my favorite Bible verse: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths” (Proverbs 3:5-6).
From my time living and working in Texas, I grew so much as a person and had so many new experiences that I never would have had otherwise. From meeting new people, to being involved in events at my new local church, to experiencing the energy and excitement of going to rodeos and hiking through cactus-laden landscapes, I created many new memories.
We have all experienced times of change at some point in our lives, whether it has been moving to a new place, starting a new job, or entering into a new relationship. However, amidst all the changes, it is reassuring to know that we serve a God Who does not change and is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8). Not only is God the One Constant in our ever-changing world, He also has a great plan for each of our lives — we just simply have to trust in Him.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart; and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths” (Proverbs 3:5-6).
