Finding God’s Care Through Community

Rumbi’s AYP Journey

For Rumbi, Adventist Young Professionals (AYP) has been more than just an organization; it has been a reminder that God cares deeply for His children, even in life’s most challenging seasons.

She first heard about AYP at a regional Bible study group in New Hampshire, where fliers were being shared for the 2024 AYP Convention. Curious, she decided to attend with friends. That decision opened the door to a new community of faith-driven professionals who would play a powerful role in her journey.

A Place Where God’s Care Becomes Tangible

By the time the 2025 AYP Convention arrived, Rumbi was in a season of struggle. Recovering from a serious injury and walking with a cane, she wasn’t sure how the experience would unfold. But what she found was God’s care expressed through community.

Within hours of arriving, she was greeted by two friends she had previously met at GYC. They noticed her condition, took time to listen, and prayed with her on the spot. “I cried during their prayer because it felt like a hug from God,” Rumbi recalls.

That moment set the tone for the rest of the weekend. One of the attendees introduced her to a ministry app he had developed to help leaders organize events—something especially relevant to her role as VP of Logistics for a GYC regional chapter at the time. And during a breakout seminar, after asking just one question, several professionals approached her to share encouragement and their own stories of faith and work.

“AYP showed me that God not only cares about my personal walk, but also about surrounding me with people who can support, mentor, and encourage me,” she says.

A Call to Rest and Empower Others

Today, Rumbi senses God calling her to a season of rest and recovery, but she also sees AYP as part of how God is shaping the next generation. “I want to continue mentoring the youth at my church while I recover,” she explains, “and I see AYP as a movement that empowers young adults to steward what God has placed in their hands.”

Her encouragement to other professionals is a reflection of her AYP experience:
“God cares about you as an individual. What you do matters—but don’t forget, you are God’s business too. You wholly matter to Him.”

Even in the Little Things

For Rumbi, that truth began being revealed years earlier during an evangelism training program. At the time, she had just gone plant-based and discovered a gluten intolerance. Longing for something simple, she prayed for gluten-free cookies. A few days later, the program director walked in with a container of homemade vegan, gluten-free cookies—an answer God had already set in motion through the director’s wife before Rumbi had prayed.

“That moment reminded me of Isaiah 65:24: ‘It will come to pass that before they call, I will answer; and while they are still speaking, I will hear,’” she says. “God answering the little prayers is proof that God cares about you and me as individuals.”

AYP, for Rumbi, has been a continuation of that same lesson: that God provides—sometimes through answered prayers for cookies, sometimes through the prayers and support of a community walking alongside her.
