Standing Strong When Fear Knocks
Fear is one of the most persistent challenges we face as young professionals. It shows up in the office, classrooms, and conversations that stretch us. It whispers in moments of decision: What if you fail? What if you’re not enough? But the Bible reminds us that courage isn’t the absence of fear – it’s the decision to move forward in faith, knowing that He is with us.
Joshua 1:9 says it plainly: “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” Courage, in God’s kingdom, is rooted not in self-confidence, but in God-confidence. Our fortitude comes from trusting His presence and His promises.
Paul reminds us in 2 Timothy 1:7 that “God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.” That means we’re equipped with everything we need to face uncertainty – strength for the moment, love for those around us, and a clear mind to make Spirit-led decisions.
Even more, Romans 5:3-4 tells us that perseverance in the face of hardship produces character, and character produces hope. Courage isn’t just a burst of bravery in a single moment – it’s a way of living. It’s choosing to keep going when the outcome isn’t certain, to speak truth when it’s unpopular, and to live out your faith when it’s easier to stay silent.
As Adventist young professionals, our call is to bring light into places where hope feels dim. That takes courage—not just to start, but to keep standing when it would be easier to give in. And when our courage is anchored in Christ, it becomes unshakable.
So whatever stands before you today – a conversation you’re avoiding, a decision you’ve been delaying, a challenge that feels bigger than you – remember: the God who calls you is the God who equips you. Step forward. Stand firm. Be strong and courageous.
