Psalm 3

Morning After the Worst Night

"I lie down and sleep; I wake again, because the Lord sustains me." (Psalm 3:5)

David wrote this while fleeing his son Absalom. His own child was trying to kill him. The people he’d led had turned. Many were saying God had abandoned him.

And he slept.

Not because everything was fine. Because he had laid down his fear with his body and trusted God to hold what he couldn’t. He trusted and knew that the Lord sustained him.

That’s the exhausted faith of someone who has no options left except trust. When you’ve run out of every other resource, sleep becomes an act of dependence.

Haven’t we all had nights where sleep felt impossible because the problems were too loud. Nights where we wer so depleted that sleep was the only prayer left. David somewhere in between, hunted by his own son, chose to lie down.

The morning came. The Lord sustained him.

QUESTION TO CONSIDER
What would it look like to lay down the thing you’ve been carrying tonight and trust God to hold it while you sleep?
