"Woe to those who plan iniquity, to those who plot evil on their beds! At morning's light they carry it out because it is in their power to do it." (Micah 2:1)
Micah gets specific. He’s not talking about impulsive sin. He’s talking about premeditated exploitation. People who lie awake at night planning how to take what belongs to someone else. Who wake up in the morning and execute the plan because they have the power to do it.
They covet fields and seize them. They take houses. They defraud people of their inheritance, women of their homes, children of their dignity. And they dress it in legal language. They use the system they control to make the theft look legitimate.
The false prophets show up here too. They told the people what they wanted to hear: don’t prophesy about these things, disgrace will not overtake us. And Micah names what they are. They preach for wine and beer. They’ll say whatever the paying audience wants.
What strikes us is that the people being described still thought of themselves as religious. They still participated in the worship. They just compartmentalized. The faith over here and the business practices over there, with the two never meeting.
That compartmentalization is still the most dangerous form of religious corruption because it’s where you keep the forms of faith while the actual life goes unchallenged.

Where have you been keeping your faith and your actual life in separate compartments?
