"Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." (John 8:32)
Jesus connects freedom to truth, not preference, not independence. That’s uncomfortable. Because truth tends to expose things we’d rather not look at.
It’s easy to want relief without honesty. We want peace without actually confronting what’s underneath, the pride, the fear, the bitterness, the pattern we keep repeating. Jesus consistently goes beneath the surface.
The story of the woman caught in adultery does something to me every time. Watch how quickly people weaponize shame. And watch Jesus, He refuses both condemnation and compromise. He offers grace and still calls her toward transformation. Both at the same time.
Real freedom isn’t pretending failure doesn’t matter. It’s discovering that failure doesn’t have to define you forever.
