"In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." (John 16:33)
What I appreciate is that Jesus spoke honestly. He didn’t promise a painless life to people who followed Him faithfully. He told them the truth. And somehow that makes the encouragement feel more trustworthy, not less.
We can slip into interpreting hard seasons as evidence that something has gone spiritually wrong. But a lot of growth is uncomfortable precisely because God is developing something deeper, trust, endurance, dependence.
I’ve also noticed that difficulty either hardens people or deepens them. It tends to reveal what you’re actually anchored to underneath the surface.
Trouble is real. But it’s not the last word.
