"Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another's feet." (John 13:14)
What I keep coming back to in John 13 is that Jesus’ leadership never depended on distance or status. He knew exactly who He was. And He still got down on the floor.
We often associate leadership with visibility, authority, platform. Jesus consistently connected it to service. Not performative service. Quiet willingness to care for people in ways that cost something personally.
What challenges me most: Jesus washed the feet of people who were going to fail Him within hours. He didn’t wait for loyalty to be proven before he served. That kind of humility is hard. It’s far easier to serve people when appreciation is guaranteed.
Real maturity shows up in how we treat people when we expect nothing back.
