"The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it." (John 1:5)
John 1 shows that light doesn’t wait for darkness to clear before showing up. It enters confusion, uncertainty, resistance. We tend to assume clarity comes first and faith follows. But God often invites us to keep walking while the next step slowly becomes visible.
Delay is easy to confuse with absence. When things feel unresolved, discouragement has a way of quietly shaping how you see everything. But John reminds me that darkness isn’t defeat. God can still be present and working in ways I can’t see yet.
John the Baptist’s posture also does something to me. He knew his role wasn’t to be the center. Just to point. That’s a harder assignment than it sounds, especially when you’re the one in the room with the most visibility.
And Jesus’ invitation at the end of the chapter is so simple it’s almost easy to miss: Come and see. Not come and understand. Not come once you’ve figured it out. Just come. Stay close. Long enough to recognize His voice.
