"Your brother came deceitfully and took your blessing." (Genesis 27:35)
Jacob dressed in his brother’s clothes, covered his hands in goatskin, and deceived his blind father into giving him the firstborn’s blessing. And it worked.
Rebekah orchestrated it. Isaac was deceived. Esau lost something that should have been his. And Jacob got what he wanted through manipulation.
The blessing wasn’t revoked. Isaac couldn’t take it back. But Jacob spent the next twenty years running, working, being deceived in return, and carrying the weight of what he’d done. The blessing was real. The method was wrong. And the method had consequences that ran for decades.
I’ve wanted right things through wrong means. I’ve convinced myself that because the goal was legitimate, the approach was excusable. Genesis 27 doesn’t support that. The blessing Jacob took didn’t come without cost. And the cost wasn’t just his. It fractured a family.
How you get what you want matters as much as what you get.
