Genesis 2

What Was Made for Each Other

"It is not good for the man to be alone." (Genesis 2:18)

That sentence arrives before the fall. Before anything went wrong. In the middle of a perfect garden, with full access to God, the assessment is still: it is not good for the man to be alone.

That’s worth sitting with. Because a lot of us treat loneliness like a spiritual problem to overcome. If I just had more faith, more contentment, more intimacy with God, I wouldn’t need people so much. But Genesis 2 says the need for human connection was built in before sin entered the picture. It’s not a deficiency. It’s the design.

God didn’t fix Adam’s aloneness with more theology. He made someone. A person. A partner. Equal in dignity, specific in form, bone of my bone, flesh of my flesh.

I’ve watched people try to spiritualize their way out of loneliness for years. Treating community as optional, treating isolation as faithfulness, treating the need for people as something to be managed rather than met. Genesis 2 doesn’t support that. It says connection is not a luxury. It’s a necessity built into what it means to be human.

QUESTION TO CONSIDER
Where have you been treating your need for community as a weakness instead of a design?
