"I, Daniel, was exhausted and lay ill for several days." (Daniel 8:27)
That verse is easy to skip. But it’s one of the most honest moments in the whole book.
Daniel received a vision and it overwhelmed him. He got sick. He lay down for days. Then he got up and went back to work without fully understanding what he’d been shown.
We don’t talk about spiritual exhaustion as a legitimate experience often enough. We treat it like a symptom of weak faith rather than a normal part of engaging seriously with God and the weight of what He’s doing in the world. But Daniel, a man whose faith held up in lions’ dens and royal courts, got leveled by a vision and needed time to recover.
There’s something relieving about that. You don’t have to have everything processed before you show up again. You don’t have to understand everything you’ve been given before you take the next step. Daniel got up and returned to the king’s business. The confusion didn’t go away. He went anyway.
Many of us have had seasons where we were carrying something spiritually heavy and had no words for it. Where the faithful thing wasn’t to figure it out immediately but to rest, get up, and keep going. That’s not a failure of faith. That’s what faith looks like when it’s being tested by something larger than you expected.
