"But the holy people of the Most High will receive the kingdom and will possess it forever." (Daniel 7:18)
Daniel 7 is full of beasts and thrones and terrifying imagery. It can feel overwhelming on first read. But underneath all of it is an emotional reality worth sitting with.
Daniel was a man watching empires rise and devour. He’d lived inside violent political power his entire adult life. And God gave him a vision that pulled back the curtain on all of it. Despite what our sinful world looks like, the Ancient of Days is seated. The court is in session. And it ends one specific way.
That’s not escapism. That’s an anchor. The vision isn’t permission to check out of the present. It’s what you need to stay in it without losing your footing.
We need this more than we usually admit. When things feel chaotic, when institutions are unreliable, when the news is heavy, our instinct is to grip tighter or go numb. Neither one is faith. What Daniel gets from this vision is perspective. Not that the chaos isn’t real. Just that it isn’t ultimate.
As Christ’s followers, we will receive the kingdom. That’s where the story is going. Which changes how you move through the middle of it.
