Acts 24

Still Faithful While Waiting

"Felix was afraid and said, 'That's enough for now! You may leave. When I find it convenient, I will send for you.'" (Acts 24:25)

Felix heard Paul’s argument. Got close enough to the gospel that he was afraid. And then decided to wait for a more convenient time. He kept Paul imprisoned for two years, called him in regularly to talk, and ultimately did nothing. He was waiting for a bribe that never came.

Two years.

Paul sat in that prison and kept talking to anyone who would listen. No bitterness recorded. No manipulation. He made his case when asked and waited when not. Felix never found the convenient time. Festus eventually replaced him, and Paul was still there.

Faithfulness in a holding pattern is one of the harder forms of obedience. When nothing is moving. When people who could help you aren’t helping you. When the outcome you expected keeps not arriving. And yet the call is still the same: be faithful here, while you wait.

Paul in Caesarea wasn’t behind. He wasn’t being punished. He was being held in exactly the place where God needed him, until the next door opened.

QUESTION TO CONSIDER
Where are you in a holding pattern, and what would it look like to be fully faithful in it rather than just enduring it?
