Acts 2

When Everything Changes at Once

"All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them." (Acts 2:4)

Pentecost was not subtle. Fire, wind, languages nobody had learned. Three thousand people were baptized in a single day. The disciples who had been hiding behind locked doors a few weeks earlier were suddenly preaching in the streets.

What I keep coming back to is that Peter was one of them. The same Peter who denied Jesus three times around a charcoal fire. And now he’s standing up in front of a crowd, explaining what’s happening, quoting Scripture, landing the sermon. Something had clearly changed inside him before anything changed around him.

That’s what the Spirit does. It doesn’t just give you something to say. It changes who you are when you say it.

I’ve seen that in people. A person who used to be ruled by anxiety starts leading with steadiness. Someone who couldn’t talk about their faith without freezing up finds words they didn’t know they had. The evidence of the Spirit isn’t always fire and wind. Sometimes it just looks like someone finally becoming who they were supposed to be.

QUESTION TO CONSIDER
Where in your life might the Spirit be trying to produce something you can’t manufacture on your own?
